I hope everyone had a chance to watch The Satanic Verses affair on the BBC, which marked 20 years since the government and so-called intellectuals, liberals and literali of the time shamefully virtually abandoned the author Salman Rushdie.
Where scenes of nazi-style book burnings by crowds of illiterate islamofascists were met with indifference.
How little we learned from it in the last 20 years.
No video today, but I’d like to read a few key passages from The Fallout, a book by Andrew Anthony which I’ve mentioned several times before. The rest of what you hear are the authors words, not mine.
If you hate my voice, this probably isn’t for you! But if you want a flavour of the book and a good summary of the book burning incident, you might enjoy this. And I had forgotten just how hate-filled Cat Stevens (aka Yusuf Islam) is against the west – I heard him saying that he would have told Iran where Rushdie lived, if he knew, and if he had seen Rushdie on the street, would have “done Allah’s will”. And we all know what that means.
